A Mission Rooted in a Child’s Potential
The learning that begins at home gives every child the foundation to break the cycle of poverty. By building strong foundations in the earliest years, mothers help children reach their potential, succeed in school, and create opportunities for a brighter future.
Three Principles Guide Our Work
- Every Child Deserves a Strong Start.
- Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
- Mothers Are Essential Partners in Foundational Learning.
- With practical knowledge and support, mothers can nurture their children’s language, curiosity, confidence, and love of learning.
- Communities Help Children Thrive.
- Families are stronger when communities provide the resources, relationships, and support that help children build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Learning Is a Shared Responsibility
Information alone rarely changes a child’s day. We emphasize practical actions in homes and communities that turn knowledge into everyday practices.
Schools and families complement one another.
Children do best when what happens at home and in the classroom reinforces each other.
Everyday moments matter.
Daily interactions, books, and protected environment create opportunities to learn.
Families deserve support, not judgment.
We offer practical guidance and community encouragement rather than blame.
Mothers Teach. Fathers Protect. Children Rise.
These are complementary contributions to a child’s well-being—not rigid roles. Families differ across cultures and circumstances, and mothers, fathers, grandparents, guardians,
and other trusted caregivers can all contribute to a child’s development.
Mothers Teach.
The voice, presence, and daily care of a mother or primary caregiver open a child’s first lessons.
Fathers Protect.
Fathers and other caregivers help guard the safety, time, and attention children need to grow.
Children Rise.
With steady and loving support, children build language, confidence, and curiosity.
A Shared Challenge with Local Solutions
Learning poverty crosses international borders, but effective responses must respect local languages, cultures, family circumstances, and educational systems. Our global vision is an aspiration we are building toward step by step, not a prescription for varying circumstances.
- Learning alongside local communities.
- Adapting resources to cultural and linguistic contexts.
- Modifying approaches based on experience and evidence.
Help Strengthen the Foundations of Learning.
Randy F. Rubio and Iryne Q. Escalera
Through our lived experiences, we have come to realize the vital role our mothers played in our earliest learning years. This understanding unites us in our commitment to empowering other mothers in building children’s foundational learning. We began this work in the Philippines and now continue it from Provo, Utah, USA.
